Hawks cruise to victory

-

A grade: Drouin 56 def Sale 31 With a slightly reshuffled attack, Drouin took a quarter to settle in but once they had, they took control of the game. It was a great defensive effort by all with loads of pressure creating some great opportunities for defenders to turn the ball over. Taylor Beck showed her great versatility playing in WD, GD and C – making an impact in each position. Karina Proctor shot well while at the other end of the court, Sarah Dunn and Taylor Beck (again) also applied a lot of pressure in the ring. Award: Taylor Beck B grade: Drouin 37 def Sale 25 Drouin came away with a great win, with highlights all over the court. From the start, Linda Rasmussen caused the Sale goalers major headaches, along with Lia Olsen and Ali Mac, who picked off passes from a competitive but young and undisciplined Sale side. The rebounding in the ring was superb, a very classy trio. In the attack end of the court, Ella Henderson and Deb Thomas switched between C and WA, creating drives onto the ring and feeding young goaler Taylah Marsh-Irwin – it was great to watch. Whoever was goaling had to work hard to get around the tall Sale defenders. A well-deserved win, with the Drouin players working hard and backing one another.

C grade: Drouin 24 lost to Sale 36

Drouin finally found their rhythm and played a fantastic first three quarters. The ball moved fluently from defence to attack when turned over, the goalers fed and re-fed and the girls kept their heads in the drizzly and slippery conditions. Lorin Scanlan and Abbey Tyrrell in the goal ring were consistent and worked nicely, and Jess Murray and Emily Bethune intercepted a lot of passes. Back in defence, it was the battle of the giants with Sarah Sharpe and Tasha Kimber facing some tall opposition. Tasha proved she is a defensive force to be reckoned with – boy, can she jump! For most of the game, there was only five goals difference, a good effort against a team in second place. Award: Tasha Kimber 17U: Drouin 25 lost to Sale 34 A big trip to Sale for a clash of the top two undefeated sides. Sale’s quick ball movement in attack, defensive pressure through the centre court and physical presence in defence was too good, but Drouin played a great second half. There were lots of positives but plenty to work on before we take them on again in the second half of the season. Chelsea DeRiter played a great game in GK, showing her talent in defence and reading the play down the court. Award: Chelsea DeRiter 15U: Drouin 19 lost to Sale 46 Outplayed on the day by a stronger and much taller opposition, Drouin still had some strong passages of play. The girls are working on bringing together a full four quarters of strong netball, and improving each week. Next on the list is to grow taller and stronger! Rachel Diston had an outstanding performance in goal, and Brooke DeRiter who fulfilled a big ask out of position in defence.

Awards: Rachel Diston and Brooke DeRiter 13U: Drouin 20 lost to Sale 47 The baby Hawkers started the day with a strong first quarter, putting into play everything they’ve been working on at training. Everyone worked hard to provide tough defensive pressure over the whole court, and back one another up in the slippery conditions. The inexperienced side couldn’t match the top side but showed some great potential.

Awards: Maya Cooper and Lucy McKellar
