Decision on gas

-

Within a week the state government is handing down its decision as to whether to allow tens of thousands of unconventional onshore gas wells sweep through Victoria - including nearly all of Gippsland.

The Federal and State governments do not have the health and well-being of the Australian people at heart.

Which other country, would allow so much of their land to be sold to overseas interests and also have 56 per cent of their land covered by some type of mining licence.

The centre of Queensland has an area the size of Victoria that will be turned into a major gas field. In Queensland severely contaminated gas “water” runs into Australia’s greatest natural resource; the Great Artesian Basin.

The governments and mainstream media keep the subject of onshore gas mining and it’s effects quiet.

There was a major leak at Porter Ranch gas California for 5 months from a gas storage well.

Let us hope that at last the Victorian Government will hand down the right decision on unconventional gas mining – with the welfare of the people at heart. Gas mining in Queensland must then be stopped before irrepairable damage is done. The health impacts in humans and animals will appear for years to come and will be thousands of times worse than asbestos. Maureen Versteden Drouin
