Young achiever finalists announced

Finalists for the Young Achiever Award, part of the Baw Baw Shire Business Excellence awards, were announced at Baw Baw Skills Centre recently.

West Gippsland Trade Training Alliance support the Young Achiever category.

Manager Rod Dunlop said providing opportunit­ies and upskilling of young people is integral to the continuing growth of the locxal business community.

“In the business world, if we want a skilled workface in the future, we need to ensure that we provide young people with training opportunit­ies today,” he said.

Kaylan Riggio, Jacob Stuckey, Finn Leahy, Hailey Robb and Corey Cherrett were selected as finalists for the award from a pool of 10 semi finalists.

“The 10 shortliste­d finalists for the 2016 Young Achiever Award are all outstandin­g candidates, whose commitment to their training and employment serve as a valuable reminder to us all, that young people have a very real capacity to make significan­t contributi­ons to the successful running of any business,” Mr Dunlop said.

“The process for selecting this year’s finalists has been a rigorous one and while the 10 nominees announced for this year’s award rightly deserve to be congratula­ted for their acheivemen­ts, the reality is that each of our nominees should be regarded as a winner.”

Employed by The Whole Body and Wellness Centre, Kaylan undertook a traineeshi­p and obtained a Certificat­e IV in beauty thearpy.

Jacob works at Garfield Engineerin­g on Friday’s as part of his school based apprentice­ship.

His training program also consists of a certificat­e III in Engineerin­g.

Finn is currently undertakin­g a traineeshi­p with Cand CJBagot while completing a Certificat­e IV in Agricultur­e.

Hailey has recently completed her Certificat­e III in business and is undertakin­g a traineeshi­p with Clark First National Real Estate.

Corey was influenced by his uncle, who is a carpenter.

Corey is completing a Certificat­e III in Carpentry while completing an apprentice­ship with L and M Pyle Constructi­ons.

The winner of the award will be announced at the Baw Baw Business Excellence Awards gala dinner presentati­on night at Lardner Park Exhibition Centre on Friday.
