Dusties slip following upset loss
Warragul Industrials have slipped to sixth following a loss to fellow finals aspirant Nar Nar Goon, 8-11 (59) to 6-4 (40).
The Goon kicked three goals to one in the first term and held a narrow lead throughout, further consolidating their place in the top six in the process.
Dusties now found themselves back in the pack amongst a logjam of teams fighting for finals berths.
Luke McConnell fared best in front of goal, finishing with five majors.
Talented youngsters Trent Armour and Tyler Joosten led the way for Nar Nar Goon, backed up by Nicholas Henwood, Shannon Stocco and Dwayne Scott.
With Jason Wells out of the Dusties line up, the visitor found it difficult to bridge the gap.
Tyson Bale, Tye Holland and Michael Ablett set up opportunities from the midfield, while Cooper Minichiello and Josh Peterson provided rebound from defence.
Goon in thriller
Nar Nar Goon scored a tight win in the Reserves, 4-12 (36) to 4-6 (30).
Scores were level at three quarter time and the torrid low scoring affair continued in the final term, with the Goon scoring a goal while keeping Dusties to one behind to take a narrow victory.
Luke Dortmans impressed for the Goon playing up from the under 18s. He was supported by Jarrod Mills-Franklin, Phillip Dorning, Jed Ould, Mitchell Poels and Toby Sherer.
Scott Lindsay, Drew Davey, Damien Mullen, Ryan Murray, Jai Jose and Damien Dawson were the better players for Dusties.
Dusties in control
Restricting Nar Nar Goon to just one goal set up Warragul Industrials’ victory in the under 18s, 5-7 (37) to 1-6 (12).
Dusties increased their lead throughout and were always in control, with Nar Nar Goon’s goal not coming until the final term.
River Ford, Nick Ollington, Riley Rundell, Shane Webb-Ingram and Jackson Perry were the better players for Dusties.
Michael Van Roy, Thomas Close, Kayne Somers, Troy Clacy, Sam Collins and Dom Pullen battled hard for Nar Nar Goon.
Dusties hold on
Warragul Industrials held on to win a tight match in the under 16s, 4-9 (33) to 4-4 (28).
Dusties crept out to a 10 point lead at three quarter time but the Goon weren’t done with, scoring two goals to one to close the gap to five points in a thrilling finish.
Bailey Wright, Nick Elliott, Brodie Kersten, Korey Carrison and Lachlan Crook led Dusties to victory.
It was Ziare Campbell, Jacob Timewell, Cameron SwindleTurpin, Luke Close and Jackson Vogrig who nearly dragged Nar Nar Goon across the line.
