Lyrebirds record strong win
Buln Buln recorded a strong victory over Poowong, 17-17 (119) to 11 (7).
The Lyrebirds kicked four goals to one in the first quarter and were never headed, adding another five goals in the second term to effectively have the match in their keeping.
Buln Buln didn’t let up after the break, saving their best quarter until last to boot seven goals and extend the margin beyond 100 points.
Troy Shepherdson goaled in the first quarter for Poowong, but the Magpies could only muster one behind from there in what was another tough day at the office.
The win sees the Lyrebirds equal with sixth-placed Warragul Industrials on points, and should give their younger players some added confidence heading into the second half of the season.
Dylan Farrell, James Davidson and Hayden Baker each kicked three goals for Buln Buln.
Bryce Monahan, Jack Symes, Jack Nuttall and Josh O’Brien were other prominent players for the Lyrebirds.
Poowong listed Thomas Wyatt, Jaemeel Knect, Glenn Attenborough, Tim Francis, Josh Chiavaroli and Tim Hancock as its better players.
Lyrebirds comfortable
Buln Buln comfortably accounted for Poowong in the Reserves.
The Lyrebirds could have inflicted greater damage had it not been for inaccuracy, finishing with 6-21 (57) to 01 (1).
Corey Jagoe finished among the better players in his milestone game for Buln Buln, while Trent Baker, Paul Willis, Dylan Hall, Carlton Helliwell and Harry Wans also lifted for the occasion.
Jackson Glindermann, Zac Soutar, Jacksen Barlow, Clint Hickford, Clinton Newcombe and Kierley Waetford tried hard for Poowong.
Buln work hard
Buln Buln had to work hard to overcome a determined Poowong in what transpired as a tough slog in the under 16s.
Poowong scored the first goal to get the edge early, with both sides going goal for goal in a dour contest.
Taijyn Lacy scored two second quarter goals to close the gap to five points, before Eric Ceron goaled in the third term to put the Lyrebirds in front.
A torrid final term ensued, with the Magpies missing a key shot late as the Lyrebirds held on to win 3-7 (25) to 34 (22).
Kyan Willis took some good marks across half back in the difficult conditions, while Thomas Bibby, Thomas Jessup, Blake Cann and Michael Rowlinson were other key players.
Jonah Serong was a handy inclusion for the Magpies. He was well supported by Jacksen Barlow, Jake Peacock, Daniel Simons, Zac Soutar and Brodie Ardley.
