Delirium as Ellinbank take rare win

It was absolute scenes of delirium as Ellinbank held on to sink Catani by one point, 919 (73) to 10-12 (72).

Victories have been few and far between in recent times for Ellinbank, and the visitor celebrated emphatical­ly after the final siren.

It was another step forward for the young team, who the week prior had drawn level in the final quarter to almost will themselves to victory against Buln Buln.

Catani held a narrow two goal lead at half time before the Bankers set up their win in the third term booting six goals to two for a 15 point lead at the final change.

Wasted opportunit­ies in the final term almost cost Ellinbank as the Blues kept coming. The Bankers couldn’t find the goals in the final term, returning seven behinds as the Blues edged closer and were able to just hold on.

Matthew Barrand had a big say in the final outcome, booting four goals. Shaun Phelan, Daniel Burke, Patrick Bloye, Sean Masterson and Chris Gardiner were also prominent.

Ryan Eaton and Owen Fitzpatric­k worked well in tandem up forward for Catani, with each booting four goals, but it wasn’t enough.

Hayden Lownds, James Alexander, Nathaniel Rodda, Dylan Williams and Antonio Benvenuto also played well for the Blues.

Blues big win

Accurate kicking for goal helped Catani to a big win in the Reserves, 11-2 (68) to 1-6 (12).

The Blues kicked four goals to two behinds in the first term and were never headed, with the Bankers’ first major not coming until the third term through Bradley Martin.

Michael Williams, Justin Evans, Josh Tymensen, Sean Williams, Blake Malcolm and Dustin Peebles were listed as the better players for Catani.

Ellinbank were best served by Martin, Nicholas Bagnall, Daniel Pandolfo, Matthew Guy and Alex Gaudion.

Notman kicks five

Five goals from Jaxon Notman helped Ellinbank to a comfortabl­e victory in the under 18s, 9-12 (66) to 1-1 (7).

Catani hung in for the first half, but were unable to score in the second half as Ellinbank added a further six goals to their total.

Adam Feltham, Notman, Dale Armstrong, Matthew Farthing, Jye Kahan and Matthew Hasan set up the win for Ellinbank.

Catani were best served by Trent Adams, Bailey Sporish, Thomas Cairns, Ryan Hanegraaf, Mitchell Hovenbitze­r and Jack Louden.

Bankers hold edge

Ellinbank scored victory in a low scoring under 16s match, 2-11 (23) to 1-1 (7).

Catani goaled through Liam Adams in the first quarter, but could only manage one behind for the remainder of the contest as Ellinbank edged ahead.

Jesse Kelly and Cooper Bagnara scored the goals for Ellinbank.

Callum Auldist, Josh Tongs, Daniel Bradford, Jake Tyers, Brydon Price and Brayden Phillips helped set up the win for Ellinbank.

Adams, Ryan Hanegraaf, Braidyn Hall, Kyle Loveridge, Matthew Burr and Maverick Kent tried hard for Catani.
