Warragul Winterfest and Lantern Parade

-

Warragul Winterfest Lantern Parade is a celebration of Warragul in Winter. Held on Saturday June 25th from 4:30pm in Warragul's Beautiful Eastern Park, the night will see the parkland and Eastern Park Community Garden lit up with lanterns, music and free family and kids fun. Enjoy a lantern parade around the park, watch fire-twirlers, listen to drums and live music, warm yourself by the bonfire, drink in the colour and festivities as we say goodbye to the shortest days of winter and celebrate the longer days to come.

A group of locals got together with an idea to hold a Winter festival and lantern parade in Warragul, similar to the lantern parade held in Belgrave every year. They would like to see Warragul come alive during the cold quiet months of winter. To get families in Warragul and the surrounds out and about during the cold, they wanted to see families, children and locals come together with lanterns for a celebration, something that would excite and inspire and bring together people not only on the night but in the lead up to the event, with lots of lantern making workshops on offer throughout the Shire.

On the night you will see the community come out for free family fun, there will be lots of free childrens activities, a Lantern Parade, that showcases the beautiful lanterns made over the previous months, local musicians accompanying the parade with fantastic beats, with local performers in fancy dress and on stilts adding colour and fun. A Winter Festival and Lantern Parade that ends with a night market, more music and a bonfire where parade attendees can gather and enjoy the festivities. There will be food stalls for hungry revellers and plenty of shelter in case of wet weather, which will not deter the Winterfest from going ahead.

Lantern making workshops will be running throughout the lead up to the Winterfest on June 25th, with lantern making workshops held at Schools, Kindergartens, Playgroups, the Warragul Farmers Market and at Warragul Community House, throughout May and June.

The last lantern making workshops are at Warragul Community House (5623 6032) on Thursday 4:30pm - 6pm $2 each, or on the Winterfest night from 4:30pm or visit their Facebook page: Warragul-Winterfest-andLantern-Parade. For more info or contact treedin@iinet.net.au
