Bunyip back on top of the table
Bunyip returned to the top of the Ellinbank District football ladder with a comfortable victory over Buln Buln, 14-12 (96) to 5-12 (42).
The Bulldogs got the jump early, kicking nine goals in the first half to open up a 53-point advantage at the main break.
Inaccuracy hurt the Lyrebirds, who could only manage seven behinds in the first half.
Buln Buln was competitive in the second half, where they were only bettered by one point.
Matthew Ross continued his good form in front of goal for Bunyip, booting four goals, while Mitch Davies chipped in with three majors.
Michael Whyte, Jeb McLeod, Sam O’Sullivan and Dean Fitzgerald set up numerous attacks for the Bulldogs.
Buln Buln had a spread of five individual goal scorers, with Jack Symes, Bryce Monahan, Matt Gray, Hayden Baker, Dylan Farrell and Simon Dawson their better players.
Bulldogs bite
Bunyip ran out strong victor in the Reserves, 12-12 (84) to 26 (18).
The Bulldogs kicked four goals to one in the first term and maintained the advantage throughout.
Darren Blaney led the way in front of goal with three majors.
Other prominent players for the Bulldogs were Mathew Miller, Steve Berryman, David Bates, Leigh Carmody and Harrison McConnell.
Pete Verbeek, Paul Willis, Ryan Bishop, Harry Wans, Brad Fusinato and Charlie Park were serviceable for Buln Buln.
Buln’s strong win
Buln Buln pushed away after quarter time to record a strong victory, 10-13 (73) to 1-0 (6).
The Bulldogs goaled through Thomas Richter in the first term to trail by just three points at the first break, but failed to score from that point as the Lyrebirds took control.
Charlie Park, Jake Pierrehumbert, James Ireland, Harry Wans, Mitchell Leek and Jediah Melbourne were the standouts for Buln Buln.
Bailey Stokes, Richter, Alex McMillan, Matthew O’Halloran, Harrison Nadenbousch and Sam Michie did their best to stem the tide for Bunyip.
Buln Buln continued their good form in the under 16s, winning a tight encounter over Bunyip 6-8 (44) to 6-3 (39).
The Lyrebirds went into half time trailing by seven points, but were able to restrict the Bulldogs to just one goal in the second half to hit the front.
Mitchell Leek provided the key to victory, booting three goals.
Other strong performers for Buln Buln were Jaryd Kelly, Haydn Burke, Eric Ceron, Chris Wellings and Chad Hall.
For Bunyip it was Dylan Gallasch, Josh Murphy, Zack Baguley, Harrison Booth and Alex McMillan to keep them in the contest.
