Saints upset Stars’ bid

-

Garfield’s bid to play finals football was dealt a blow with an upset loss to Nyora, 11-7 (73) to 8-15 (63).

The Saints burst out of the blocks with four goals to one in the first term and were able to hold the Stars out for the remainder of the contest.

A wasteful third term return of 2-6 didn’t help the Stars’ cause.

Dylan Heylen starred, finishing with three goals while Fia Tootoo also booted three majors.

Glen Richards, Aiden Cumberland, Jason Quinton, Chris Hodges and Nick Carrigy were also prominent for the Saints.

Garfield were best served by Harley Lacunes, Rory Hower, Austin Van Strijp, coach Joel Morgan, Tyler Hobson and John Atwell.

Stars big winners

Garfield ran out big winners in the Reserves, 14-20 (104) to 3-2 (20).

The Stars booted eight goals to one in the second half to blow the margin out.

Mitch Deken and Ryan Munro each booted four goals for the Stars, with Daniel Vella, Mathew McInroy-Howard and Rick Kamphuis supporting.

Daniel Vivian, David Farley, Jack Millar, Stanton Till, Matt Layton and Sam Hall were the better players for Nyora.

Saints undermanned

Garfield were big winners over an undermanned Nyora in the under 18s, 1918 (132) to 4-3 (27).

The Saints could only muster 10 players, with the Stars sharing the players to ensure the match went ahead.

Jackson Tomkins and Brett Coffey each kicked four goals for the Stars. Mitchell Tribuzi, Ethan Haywood, Brayden Leggett, Gerard Singh and Corey Leggett also played well.

Jack Ellams, Jake Henry, Luke Zwiersen, Jacob Lesjak, Peter Gillin and Jordan Knox were the best of a depleted Nyora side.
