Goon get breathing space in top six

Nar Nar Goon gave itself further breathing space inside the top six with an upset win over reigning premiers Cora Lynn, 7-7 (49) to 66 (42).

Muddy conditions at Cora Lynn were always going to keep the contest tight, but the Goon simply looked the better team on the day to take the Cunningham Cup and give themselves a six-point buffer to Warragul Industrial­s and Garfield.

Goon coach Kris Fletcher led the way, ably assisted by Luke McConnell with four goals, Luke Failla, Trent Noy, Callum Tyler and Clint Williams.

Ryan Gillis kicked three goals, while other better players for the Cobras were coach David Main, Brady White, Ricky Clark, Tim Payne, Lochie Peluso and Nathan Usher.

Scenes in twos

It was absolute scenes as Cora Lynn held on to defeat Nar Nar Goon by a solitary point in a thrilling Reserves match.

The contest was tight throughout, with the Cobras holding on to prevail 6-4 (40) to 5-9 (39).

Darcy Robinson, Dylan McLaren, Blake Millier, Domenic Lewin and Thomas Arnett led the Cobras to victory.

Adam Murray, Wade Broadstock, Luke Dovaston, Broderick Selby, Xavier Manson and Wil Evans kept the Goon in the hunt.

Cobras strike

Cora Lynn pulled away after a tight first quarter to win the under 18s, 10-5 (65) to 2-3 (15).

Heath Briggs, Jackson Becker, Brayden Weller, Ben Virgona, Michael Rossetti and Lachlan Miceli led the way for Cora Lynn.

Dom Pullen, Jarrod Price, Josh Hermans, Kyle Matthews, Blake Rayner and Cooper Hampton were best for Goon.

Cobras win fight

Cora Lynn prevailed in a tight scrap in the under 16s.

In conditions not conducive to scoring, Cora Lynn held on to win 1-6 (12) to 1-3 (9).

Darcy Jones, Matthew Ryan, Patrick Briffa, Jack Chatfield, Zarn Green and Harrison Edwards were listed as Cora Lynn’s best.

Nar Nar Goon listed Isaac Missen, Jacob Timewell, Fletcher Rennie, Brayden Fenwick and Ziare Campbell as their best.
