Taylah represents the Big V
Warragul District Basketball Association member Taylah Giliam tested herself against metropolitan Melbourne’s best at Shepparton recently.
The year 12 St Paul’s Anglican Grammar student, who also forms part of the school’s Elite Sports Performer program, was selected to play for Victoria Country in the inaugural Big V All Stars Series.
Players were nominated from Big V talent across all divisions, with Taylah currently playing Youth League State Championship division (the highest division in Youth League) for Dandenong Rangers and nominated from her team.
Big V is a semi-professional basketball league in Victoria comprising both a men's and women's state championship competition (open age).
The Big V also comprises division one and division two competition for men and women and state championship (23 years or younger) division one and division two levels of youth competition for men and women.
The two teams, Metro and Country, represent the origins in which players were born within Australia or the current club they represent as an unrestricted player in the competition.
The inaugural Big V series was dubbed a success, with Metro announced victorious after a five point win on aggregate.
The night started with a few nervous players, as the girls played out a defensive orientated opening half.
After the scores were level at half time, Metro gained a lead in the third quarter after scores had been level at half time, and won in a close game 82–69 in a tense and heated battle.
Taylah performed well for the team, shooting six points and gaining three rebounds.
The match was then followed by the Country mendoing everything possible to reduce the deficit, using their height to knock over Metro Men by eight points.
First blood has now been drawn, with Metro taking the chocolates on this occasion.
The question now is, where will Country have the opportunity to hit back?
