$500,000 upgrade for Lyrebird Village
The last of the initial residents’ rooms built at Lyrebird Villages for the Aged at Drouin 25 years ago are undergoing a $500,000 refurbishment.
Nine rooms are progressively being renovated and modernised with the work due to be completed in September.
Chief executive officer Bill Baker said the works would bring the accommodation standards up to 2016 expectations and improve residents’ comfort, lifestyle and facilities.
The refurbishments include creating extra space, installation of modern ensuites and fittings, new carpets, furniture, desks, lighting, storage areas and décor.
Funds from the sale two years ago of independent living units in Sinclair St, Drouin, built about 30 years ago and surplus to current requirements have been used the undertake the renovations.
Lyrebird chairman Ian Brooks said the project continued the tradition of a vibrant Drouin community that built, own and operate the aged care facility by reinvesting surplus funds into improved resident care and facilities.
A second renovation project at the complex is also underway.
Mr Baker said $75,000 was being spent on a new activities area, additional lounge and new furniture and fittings to improve daily living in the specialised Waratah wing.
The Drouin and District Community Bendigo Bank contributed $50,000 towards the cost.
Lyrebird Village currently accommodates 115 residents and employs 150 staff to provide seven day a week around the clock care.
