Paul Harris award to David Lyons
Trafalgar High School student welfare coordinator David Lyons was recognised recently by the Rotary Club of Trafalgar for his contribution to youth.
David was named a Paul Harris Fellowship and the Trafalgar Rotary Club donated $US1000 to the Rotary Foundation who carry out an array of programs worldwide aimed at improved living conditions, increased food production, better education, wider availability of treatment and rehabilitation for sick and disabled in his name.
The presentation of the fellowship certificate and pin was conducted by the club president Di Harrison and Rotary Club member Glenn Doolan who visited David while he was volunteering at the 1st Trafalgar Scout Group’s venturer unit.
David, who as well as his professional employment with Trafalgar High School as a youth worker, volunteers with youth in many settings including the mentoring programs with the Trafalgar Youth Recourse Centre and with Scouts Australia in a number of ways including as a leader with the 1st Trafalgar Venturer unit for 15 to 18 year olds, an advisor to the 1st Newborough Scout Group Capstaff Rover Crew for 18 to 26 year olds and as part of the backstage team for the performing arts activity Camberwell Showtime.
In presenting the award Ms Harrsion also noted to the Venturer Scouts present that from 2013 to current David had taken on a voluntary community leadership role as president of the Trafalgar Community Development Association and was also known for his volunteering as the bookings officer for the Trafalgar Public Hall.
David thanked Glenn and Di and asked them to pass his appreciation to Trafalgar Rotary Club and said he was pleased to see money being donated to the Rotary Foundation was an investment in young people and their health world-wide.
