Peter Dell to lead Rotary

- By Carolyn Turner Peter Dell was installed as Warragul Rotary Club president at its changeover dinner last week.

The dinner was Restaurant.

Peter said he was looking forward to leading the club in the year Rotary’s motto was “serving humanity.”

He said he was honoured to lead a wonderful group of people.

He commended the club for its work throughout the year which had resulted in more than $34,000 being donated to various local, national and internatio­nal organisati­ons.

Peter said he was proud of a variety of Rotary projects including local people playing and laughing at Rotary Park through to aid delivered to Nepal after devastatin­g earthquake­s.

Past president Richard Habgood thanked the club for his year as president.

He said members had worked hard throughout the year on key projects including the annual art show and the Christmas tree sales.

“This approach allows the club to have a good balance between fundraisin­g and cash donations and hands on delivery of services by club members to the community.

“This year we have donated in excess of $43,000 to a range of local community initiative­s as well as a number of national and internatio­nal Rotary projects.

During the year members visited the Pakenham Racecourse at Tynong, Noojee Heritage Centre, the Holden Museum at Trafalgar and the Fawlty Towers evening run by Inner Wheel.

He said another highlight was the awarding of a Paul Harris Fellow to club member Jacquey Turner.

“A significan­t project for the club this year was the In the Presence of Giants art installati­on.

“Not only did we donate $15,000 to the project. but club members put a lot of time into helping James Guerts, the artist construct the art work,” he said.

During the year the club donated funds to a wide range of community, national and internatio­nal organisati­ons including $3000 to Warragul Swimming Club, $1000 to Western Australian Bushfire appeal, $1000 to Mawarra Centre, Warragul, $1000 to Warragul Cemetery Trust, $1000 to L2P driver education, $3500 to orphanages in Uganda and South Sudan and $5000 to Rotary Internatio­nal.

Awards for 100 per cent attendance were presented to Andrew Lewis and Vaughan Fox.

Members were advised that former Warragul Rotarian Cliff Wilkinson, now a member of Mooloolaba Rotary Club, was recently awarded a Paul Harris Fellow. held at Black Tie
