Seniors on the up

-

The Gulls’ senior football team has seen steady improvement in 2016 so far winning five games (up from two last year) and being competitive in the games it didn’t win.

The key goals are to improve fitness levels, ball movement and defensive structures as well as team spirit.

The team spirit and enjoyment levels amongst the group is terrific and the attitude towards training is continually improving.

Some of the young Warragul locals are starting to show some real potential.

Nick Stevenson (aged 19) has performed very well in defence against some of the league’s best forwards, Jake Hughes (18) has been a solid, consistent performer, Tom Axford (19) continues to impress each week, Brad Hefford (19) is winning more of the ball as the season progresses, and Tom Kelly (18), Pete Davine (18), Jared Lane (19) and Leigh Smith (18) are also on the to improve.

Although young these young boys are already key players in the team and will be into the future.

The inclusion of some experienced and talented players has made a huge difference.

Dylan Proctor, Matt Rennie, Brayden Fowler, Nathan Paredes, Simon Fairbairn and Leigh Sheehan are not only quality players but exceptional people helping to build a culture that the club aspires to.

The team has been led very well by Chris Carey, Sam Russell and Brad Scalzo, all having great seasons.

All of the players thank the committee members, volunteers, sponsors and supporters who make representing Warragul in the Gippsland League an rewarding experience.

Steve Kidd, Senior coach.
