AIM IS EXCELLENCE

-

The mission of the Warragul Football and Netball Club is very open and straightforward.

“We aim to create an environment of excellence in which young men and women are assisted to achieve their full potential as footballers, netballers and people in an atmosphere that promotes strong family values, excellence and instils qualities of personal development, team pride and sportsmanship in everything we do”.

The club competes in the premier competition in the region, the Gippsland League.

The competition demands high standards in all grades of football and netball. It has been the club’s choice to represent our community at the highest level available and over the past 10 years this has presented some huge challenges with the cost and effort required to be competitive.

Our aim is to ensure we can be successful at this level and do the town of Warragul proud.

As president I have great support from the committee and could not be prouder of the amount of commitment from our netball and football junior development personnel who go to great lengths to ensure that each family is not only welcome but clear on the level of discipline and hard work that needs to occur in order for their children to be successful.

Our ultimate aim for all of our senior and junior players is for them to play at the highest level available and strive to go even further such as zone representation, VFL/AFL football and State/National level netball.

We have achieved this on numerous occasions with our players regularly being selected to represent our zone in football and netball.

At last year’s draft, a special family of ours, the McKay’s two younger sons were recruited to the AFL - Harry to Carlton and Ben to North Melbourne.

Along with parents, Peter and Tracey, we couldn’t be prouder of the achievements of these boys.

Being involved at a committee level of a local Club takes commitment, particularly in ensuring the right environment for our junior and senior players and their families to flourish.

We endeavour to have quality coaches, support staff and more importantly strong leadership so that everyone involved feels safe and enjoys the sport they are involved in.

To provide this environment requires a huge effort from everyone.

Every person involved has a ‘normal’ day job yet consistently put in many hours of after-hours work into the club on a weekly basis to try to provide a healthy club culture for everyone.

There is another special group of people that give us unprecedented support, our sponsors.

Most are local businesses and have been involved with the club for a number of years.

Without them the club could not raise the enormous amount of income to field five junior and five senior teams and provide the necessary equipment, facilities and staff to ensure the players’ welfare on and off the field.

Running a sporting club is very much like running a small business.

As a club, wherever it is possible, we buy locally to support to those who support us and the wider community of Warragul. Chris Blackwood, President.
