Showcase for young talent
There are some simple philosophies underpinning the club’s approach to junior football.
They are to provide an option to showcase local junior football talent at the highest level possible and to be inclusive of the broader Warragul district not just “inner” Warragul.
Like interleague football that is inspired by the combination of surrounding teams representing one body Warragul is a place to bring surrounding players to represent all.
The district has a wealth of talent at all levels and working together for all to achieve their best level is important.
The opportunity to compete in the Gippsland Football League as a district against other major regional areas is exciting and certainly worth aspiring to.
WFNC’s junior football is led by a junior football manager Wayne Robbins backed by the coaches of the Under 16 and Under 18 teams, Warwick Baum and Craig McGarrity.
The juniors play every week at the highest junior level available and on the best grounds with the best facilities in the Gippsland area.
Our junior programme has been highlighted recently with AFL draftees Ben McKay (North Melbourne) and Harry McKay (Carlton), along with Tom Hobbs (Port Melbourne VFL) and Josh Pattulo (Gippsland Power/Casey VFL).
These players all came via the junior programme at the Warragul Football Club where coaches focus on the development of skills and fitness while challenging each player to improve to compete at a regularly higher level.
It creates an environment to build individual and team relationships, learning to stick together and work to their best ability as a complete unit.
As well as football the club works with players and families on many life issues particularly important at thbese age groups.
The Gulls are a great option for young players that love their footy and want a competitive challenge.
They’ll also meet many great people along the way.
