Council asset policy revised

-

A policy to ensure Baw Baw Shire appropriately manages its asset portfolio has been revised and endorsed by council.

Council has adopted its revised asset management policy and asset management strategy.

A report to council said the policy provided a clear direction for asset management and defined the key principles that underpin service and asset management delivery.

The policy states council has an extensive network of roads, drainage, property and other physical assets valued at more than $710 million.

“Prudent management of these assets is a core council function and critical to maximising the quality of life in our community, now and into the future,” the policy states.

The strategy includes management of roads, stormwater drainage, buildings and facilities and parks and recreation assets.

Cr Murray Cook said the purpose of the strategy was to clearly articulate “where we are, where we are going and how we are going to get there” with respect to council’s asset management functions.

The strategy includes an action plan for asset management improvement over the next four years.

The report said the proposed policy and strategy would assist in the lifecycle management of community assets which underpins the service delivery requirements of our community needs.

Cr Cook said the policy was first developed by council in September 2014. He said the policy was reviewed annually. He said the policy included a table of priorities and provided a table of actions.
