Cobras defeat gallant Garfield

Five unanswered goals in the third term helped set up Cora Lynn’s win over a gallant Garfield, 13-11 (89) to 9-8 (62).

The Stars took it to the Cobras for the majority of the contest, and entered half time with a narrow five-point lead.

Both sides traded goals early in the third term and an upset was looming if the Stars could maintain their effort.

But the reigning premiers were able to show why they continue to be a good side, lifting to hit a third quarter purple patch which saw them score five of the next six goals to open up a handy 22-point buffer at the final change.

The Stars continued the fight in the final term, but the Cobras were able to score two steadiers to seal the deal.

Jackson Dalton continued his strong run of form upon return to the Cobra line up, finishing with five goals in a best afield performanc­e.

Ricky Clark and Brady White won plenty of the ball, while Nathan Muratore provided good drive from defence. Justin Markulija also put in a strong performanc­e.

Tyson Payne, Joel Morgan and Angus Mitchell led the way in a gallant Stars outfit. Brock Neve defended well, while talls Sam Whibley and Jonathan Sauze were also effective.

Stars shine bright

A strong final term helped Garfield to victory in the Reserves, 10-4 (64) to 6-8 (44).

The Stars held a narrow six-point lead heading into the final change, with four goals to two in the final term extending the final margin to 20-points in what was otherwise a tight contest.

Cobras pass test

Cora Lynn prevailed in what was a testy under 18 contest at times.

The Cobras kicked four goals to two in the second term to open up a 15point buffer and maintained the advantage throughout the second half to win 9-9 (63) to 6-3 (39).

Josh Wilson and Tristan Fernandez-Phillips each booted three goals for the Cobras.

Brayden Weller, Lachlan Miceli, Michael Rossetti, Lochie Peluso and Adam Jenner were also prominent.

Lachlan Schreurs, Brayden and Corey Leggett, Matthew Turner and Ryan Archer were best in a gallant Garfield effort.

Cobras comfortabl­e

Cora Lynn overcame a slow start to comfortabl­y win the under 16s, 7-10 (52) to 1-3 (9).

The Cobras trailed at quarter time, but regained the lead in the second quarter and never looked back.

Restrictin­g the Stars to one behind for the remainder of the match helped their cause.

Blake York, Corey Brook, Taiki Skipworth, Cory Matthews, Liam Taylor and Ryan Hartley set up the win for the Cobras.

Jerimiah Whibley, Aaron Marsh, Tully Loomes, Josh Patterson, Jacob Telford and Trent McMahon helped the Stars to a strong start.
