Demons take win from final play

Greater accuracy helped Koo wee rup to a thrilling one point win over Nar Nar Goon, 10-9 (69) to 9-14 (68).

In a finals like contest between fourth and fifth placed on the ladder, the Goon took a narrow eightpoint lead into half time.

Wasted opportunit­ies hurt the Goon in the third term with a return of 1-8 for the quarter proving costly to the end result. At the other end the Demons managed 4-2 to gain a four-point lead.

A thrilling final term ensued and it was Koo wee rup’s turn for a case of the yips with a return of 2-5, but the Demons were able to hold on by a solitary point.

It came down to the final play of the day. With the scores locked at 68 apiece with about 30 seconds to play, the Demons went long searching for spearhead Mitchell Collins but the Goon defenders were able to rush a minor score.

The clock beat the Goon, who had worked to the midfield from the kick out when the siren sounded.

The win ensured the Demons remain in the hunt for a top two finish, creating a six point buffer to the Goon and sixth-placed Nilma-Darnum.

Mitchell Collins again had strong presence, booting four goals, while Ben Miller chipped in with three majors.

Daniel Calteri, David Collins, Scott Houghton, Ben Collins, Bailey Galante and Craig Dyker also helped will the Demons over the line.

Mark McManus, Jay Marcon, Matthew Stevens, Jarrod MillsFrank­lin, Nicholas Henwood and Kris Fletcher were gallant in the narrowest of defeats for the Goon.

Big win to Goon

Nar Nar Goon recorded a big win in the Reserves, 23-8 (146) to 4-3 (27).

The Goon booted five goals to one in the first term and were never headed.

Ben Scanlon kicked five goals, while Broderick Selby, Toby Sherer, Xavier Manson, Jarrod Price and Jarryd Hendrickx were also among the Goon’s best.

The loss saw the Demons slip outside the top six.

Patrick Lawson, Ben Simpson, Neil Watson, Steven Hobson, Jesse Cammarano and Caleb Milojevic were the leaders in a disappoint­ing result.

Goon storm home

Seven goals in the final term helped Nar Nar Goon to a come from behind victory in the under 18s, 10-10 (70) to 7-11 (53).

The Goon trailed by 15-points at the final change before clicking into gear with a barnstormi­ng final term.

Sam Collins led the charge with four goals, while Kyle Matthews, Luke Dortmans, Michael Van Roy, Troy Clacy and Blake Rayner also stepped up.

Goon create win

Nar Nar Goon created more scoring opportunit­ies to win the under 16s, 7-15 (57) to 5-1 (31).

With scores level at half time, the Goon went on with the job but inaccuracy helped the Demons to stay in the hunt.

Brayden Fenwick, Ziare Campbell, Jake Tabone, Jacob Timewell and Ethan O’Hoy were listed as best for Nar Nar Goon.

Rhys Grange-Lylak was the most effective forward, booting three goals in a losing effort.

Mitchell Cammarano, Luke Edwards, Thomas Glassbarro­w, Brad Ventura and Jack Johns also kept the Demons in the contest.
