Funds from Drouin Rotary
As part of its annual distribution of funds, the Drouin Rotary Club recently donated $3000 to the Ice Meltdown Project.
The presentation was made by service projects director Kevin Roberts to Janice Ablett, president, Chris Williams, vice president, and secretary Megan Waddell.
Kevin said that this year’s substantial donations to community organisations were made possible by revenue raised from the club’s major fund-raising projects including the Motorfest, the Swap Meet, monthly produce and craft markets, and from work performed at Farm World.
In accepting the donation, Ms Ablett said that the project did not receive any government funding and was deeply appreciative of Rotary’s ongoing support, together with assistance from other local organisations. She said the funds would assist in meeting expenses of operating the detox house, such as rent and maintenance. Enquiries for assistance at the house were being received from various parts of Australia.
She said that the committee appreciated the opportunity to mount a stall at the Rotary Motorfest earlier in the year and at the monthly Drouin markets. The stalls allowed them to raise additional funding through the sale of Ice Meltdown Project hats, as well as to provide information on the project to the public.
West Gippsland Hospital maternity unit and Cooinda Lodge aged care residence, also received donations totalling $7500.
A cheque presented to the maternity unit for $2500 will be used to purchase a Medela hospital-grade breast pump to specifically support new mums throughout their breastfeeding journey. The innovative pump can be used immediately after giving birth to initiate, build and maintain an adequate milk supply.
Cooinda Lodge aged care residence received $5000 towards the establishment of a hair salon for residents. The onsite dedicated hair salon room will be fitted out to allow residents to be pampered in their own home.
Over the past 10 years, the club has donated more than $70,000 to the West Gippsland Healthcare Group.
