Drouin

After a miserable week, weather conditions were reasonable for Saturday’s stableford.

Andy Denton took full advantage of the conditions to record a comfortabl­e win in A grade with 44.

Gary Websdale often finds work and other commitment­s make it difficult to spend as much time on the course as he would like. His victory in B grade with 39 would have been pleasing.

DTL: John Wolswinkel 41, Leigh Gordon 40, Graham Rawson 39, Jason Brain 39 and on countback with 38, Shane Gorman and Jackson Caddy.

This Saturday is par. Women

Tuesday was the monthly medal and stroke event.

Weather was threatenin­g, but the women managed to play. The winner on the day was Sue Hatfield on a count back to Glenda Warren both with nett 80. Glenda had the best score of 96.

Down the line balls went to Robyn O’Brien with 83 and to Bev Goodwin with 86.

Nearest the pins went to Bev Goodwin on the fifth, Glenda Warren on the 10th, and Glenda Warren picked up the pro pin on the 14th hole.

Monthly medal will be determined by a playoff on July 19.

The previous Saturday saw Glenda Warren also have a win .

Today is Canadian foursomes. Seniors

Only a small field of seniors competed in their nine-hole competitio­n on Thursday.

The winner in the women’s division was Mildred Lyon and the runner up was Megan Ford.

In the men’s division the winner was Jock Granger with 20 points, and the runner up was Rolf Loebert with 16 points.

Garfield

Saturday turned out to be a glorious winter’s day after the early morning fog had lifted.

Some 84 golfers presented to the starter for a game of single stableford played under preferred lie conditions.

Best in with a great score of 41 points was Mark Kelly playing off his mark of 18 to take out victory for B grade.

The best in for A grade was Peter Medwin, playing better than his handicap of just eight with a score of 38 points.

Richard Gould did best for C grade with a score of 36 points, which was right on the number for his handicap of 29.

A score of 35 points or better down to a count back was required to win a ball down the line, of which was achieved by a further eight players including Glenn Wells who displayed a welcome return to form by scoring a great 39 points.

Speaking of form, there is no one displaying more consistenc­y at the moment than Grant McKay, who for the third week in a row features amongst the best performers. A Saturday score of 37 points also included the two neatest the pins on the par three 8th and 16th holes.

At the other end of the field Bill Low celebrated his birthday by scoring just the 15 points for his round, which held up the rest of the field. Bill Papadopoul­os also features amongst the better players by also scoring two nearest the pins, being both the 9th and 11th holes.

Thursday’s regular single stableford event attracted just the 23 players with event regular David Thorp smashing the rest of the field with a great score of 39 points, which was six points clear of the next best score of 33. This score was achieved by a further three players.

Next week’s major event for Saturday is a game of single par. A few finished in the dark but there were plenty of excellent scores but none better than Tom Denholm and Paul Potter on 59.5 nett.
