Teams reach for the top

- By Harrison Johnstone

After a successful weekend in the interleague carnival for the Warragul and District Junior Football League, the players were back at it in the regular season looking to reach for the top of the ladder as it heads into the exciting end of the season.

Low visibility made for exciting play on the ground and difficult views for spectators as players battled it out on the turf.

The Drouin side fought hard but weren't able to match the score of the Colts in the end, going down 6-9 (45) to 3-4 (22).

Ellinbank and the Blues united to play for the Voyage Cup in order to raise awareness for Australia's growing numbers of diabetes sufferers.

It was the Bankers control and skill overhead with their set passages of play that allowed them to take out the Cup despite strong Blues competition, winning 9-7 (61) to 4-5 (29).

Both teams fielded low numbers in a thrilling contest between Hallora and Yarragon.

Yarragon took the game from Hallora after fending off a late comeback, 6-6 (42) to 2-4 (16).

Poowong-Loch continued to contest the ball throughout the match despite the scoreboard, with Bunyip finishing on top, 21-14 (140) to 2-2 (14).

The game tightened up in the second with Longwarry settling but they couldn't level the score as Garfield built a solid lead on the way to winning 15-15 (105) to 0-1 (1).

Corey Heagney played his 50th game.

It was a hard fought game with Caldermeade scoring quickly from the first bounce on the way to winning over Neerim District, 12-8 (80) to 5-2 (32).

The Jets controlled the game for the majority of the time, only faltering in the end which allowed the Colts to get on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter.

The Jets won 9-6 (60)to 1-2 (8).

The Warragul side kicked away in the second quarter to build up a strong lead over Ellinbank and eventually take the match, 4-5 (29) to 1-0 (6).

Overcast conditions set the tone for the NAIDOC round between Longwarry and Garfield.

Two goals in the second quarter set the Crows up for a nice win over Garfield who were just unable to take that lead with only four points the difference in the end, 2-2 (14) to 1-4 (10).

Tackling was a prominent feature in the match, with the Cats narrowly edging out the Cannons to take the win, 1-1 (7) to 0-0 (0).
