Drouin croquet success continues

-

After recent success at both Warragul and Sale croquet venues Drouin Croquet Club members Kath Willems and daughter Libby Langford, together with Libby’s son Harvey (three generations) headed down the highway to Lakes Entrance recently.

It was the next golf croquet tournament on the Gippsland region calendar, held over the Queens Birthday long weekend.

The three-day event was handicap singles and in block C (handicap nine to 12) there were four entrants from Sorrento, three from Drouin, three from Sale and one each from Bairnsdale and Ballarat/Alexandra.

With wet and windy conditions prevailing on day one, all three Drouin members won their first game. At days end, Libby Langford had won her three games, Kath Willems recorded two wins and a loss while Harvey Langford had one win and two losses.

At the commencement of day two on Sunday, the climatic conditions turned nasty and at one stage players were on court during a light hail storm, making it difficult to roquet.

Harvey Langford regained previous match form and at end of days play his overall tally was four wins, three losses.

Kath Willems continued to attack and defend well during this session and finished her days play with an overall tally of six wins, one loss.

Libby Langford excelled and came off the court with an overall score of seven wins out of a possible eight.

At this point all three Drouin players placed themselves in a good position to commence the third stage of the tournament on the Monday.

Triumphantly the Drouin players finished one, two and three with Kath Willems (nine wins, two losses 71 hoops) outright winner in block C, narrowly defeating daughter Libby Langford (nine wins, two losses 70 hoops) by one hoop.

Grandson Harvey Langford placed third with seven wins, four losses and 65 hoops in an outstanding effort by all,

The Drouin club congratulates all three players, who came home elated with their success on the greens and reduced handicaps.
