Red and blue forever

- By Robyn Mitchard

On Saturday the Buln Buln Netball Club unveiled a special piece of memorabilia to its late life member Sharon Kelly.

Sharon, who died in 2007, was an outstanding contributor to the Buln Buln community, especially the netball club, and remains a club icon.

On Saturday, her husband Don presented her life membership badge back to the club for the 10th anniversary of A grade best and fairest award named in her honour.

Sharon was awarded a life membership in 1974 and the club recognised her 40 years’ service in 1998.

She started playing in 1958 and was a member of the B Grade Premiership team in 1976.

She coached several grades over numerous years and served as a club vice-president for six years.

It’s been an amazing family commitment with Sharon’s husband Don and her son Sean both life members of the Buln Buln Football Club and her daughter Caitlyn a life member of the netball club.

Sharon was “red and blue through and through”, always the first to put her hand up to help out.

The club thanks Don and his family for their continued support of this special award, which allows club members to reflect each year on Sharon’s commitment and contribution to the club.

As Sharon always said, “Go Birds!”
