Dusties hold fading hope
Warragul Industrials scored a strong win over Ellinbank to keep their fading chances of playing finals alive.
The Dusties won 18-11 (119) to 7-5 (47), and will look for a big win over Poowong next week while hoping Catani can pull off an upset against Nar Nar Goon.
Warragul Industrials didn’t have it all their own way against Ellinbank.
While struggling to score themselves, the Bankers defensively sound in the first half to restrict Dusties’ scoring, trailing by just seven points in a dour first quarter and still in the contest with a 30-point margin at the main break.
Dusties responded with a big third quarter, adding eight goals to three to have the match in their keeping.
The visitor went on with it in the final term, adding six goals, but the Bankers were competitive to add four majors of their own in junk time.
Goal kickers and best players for Warragul Industrials were not available at time of going to print.
Shaun Phelan kicked four goals for Ellinbank. Other better players for the Bankers were Sam Barwick, Brett Masterson, Ashley Wallace and Neale Parke.
Bankers cause upset
Ellinbank caused an upset in the Reserves, defeating the reigning premiers to put a dent in their bid to secure a top two finish.
The Bankers kicked three goals to one in the first quarter and held a narrow advantage for the remainder of the contest to win, 12-5 (77) to 7-9 (51).
Toby Wallace proved the most effective forward, kicking five goals. He was supported by Andrew Pyle, Jayson Barwick, Brad Martin, Daniel Pandolfo and Michael Robertson.
Scott Lindsay, Rhett O’Hara, Joseph Murfet, Drew Davey, James Hall and coach Shane Ingham kept Dusties in the hunt.
Dusties finish strong
A strong second half set up Warragul Industrials’ comfortable win in the under 18s, 10-10 (70) to 6-4 (40).
Dusties kicked six goals to three to run away with it after a tight first half.
Will Jolley kicked four goals, while River Ford, Travis Ogden, Ben Tyrell, Rory Crook and Brett Cameron were also prominent.
Jack Pandolfo, Tom Buckley-Brown, Adam Feltham, Jye Kahan and Fletcher Kennedy kept the Bankers in the contest for the first half.
Dusties kick away
Warragul Industrials were also strong winners in the under 16s, scoring 1012 (72) to 3-8 (26).
The Bankers were competitive in the first half, trailing by just 11 points, but could only manage five behinds after half time as Dusties kicked away.
Luke Kinder, Sage Tapner, Billy Andrews, Nicholas Huggett, Tyler Irving and Ethan Winduss helped set up the win for Dusties.
Elliot Kennedy, Lucas Maffei, Jake Tyers, Stewart Bedford, Brian Kelly and Ethan Davey stood up for Ellinbank.
