Demons downed despite venue change

Koo wee rup’s bid for a top two finish took a big hit, with the Demons having to settle for a draw with Catani at Denhams Rd.

With the ground at Catani deemed unfit for play on Thursday, the match was moved to Koo wee rup. It was a view not shared by Blues players and officials, with the club seeking compensati­on from the league despite still being granted the gate at Denhams Rd.

The Blues stormed out of the blocks, kicking five goals to two in the first quarter to race to a 21point lead at the first break.

While Koo wee rup pegged back the margin in the second term, the Demons still trailed by 22-points at the final change of ends and staring down the barrel of a disappoint­ing defeat.

The Blues stopped in the final quarter, failing to register a score and if not for a wasteful Demons, would have almost certainly coughed up the four points.

The Demons added 2-10 in the final term, and had to settle for sharing the points. The Demons are now six points outside the top two with three rounds to play.

Ryan Eaton kicked three goals, while Hayden Lownds, Nathaniel Rodda, Luke McFarlane, James Alexander, Tom Keily and Antonio Benvenuto also helped the Blues to a handy three-quarter-time lead.

Tim Miller led the scoring for the Demons with three goals. Craig Dyker, Alex Considine, Adam Amore, Rian Healy and coach Ben Collins also helped drag the Demons back into the contest.

Demons run it out

Koo wee rup ran out a comfortabl­e win in the Reserves, 11-12 (78) to 5-6 (36).

The Demons kicked five goals to one in the first term and maintained the ascendency from there.

Philip Backman kicked three goals in a best afield effort. He was supported by Todd Byers, Nathan Vanderheyd­en, Todd McGrath, Steven Greaves and Ben Simpson.

For Catani it was Darren Adams, Blake Malcolm, Sean Williams, David Marson and William Temby who led the improved effort after quarter time.

Blues hold edge

Catani edged out Koo wee rup in a thrilling under 18 match.

The Blues held a narrow lead throughout and held on to win 711 (53) to 7-7 (49).

Liam Adams kicked three goals, while other prominent players for the Blues were Nathan Lineham, Jackson Caddy, Mitchell Gregson, Braidyn Hall and Trent Adams.

Jesse Cammarano, Caleb Milojevic, Shaun Donnelly, Cody Miller and James Harris led the charge for Koo wee rup.

Accuracy helps Dees

Greater accuracy helped Koo wee rup to victory in the under 16s.

Both sides registered 13 scoring shots, but it was the Demons who prevailed 9-4 (58) to 5-8 (38).

Mitchell Davey kicked six goals, supported by Josh Betts, Brad Ventura, Jake Seuren and Jack Johns.
