Cobras pushed by Cats in top two bid

Cora Lynn moved a step closer to securing a top two finish, but were made to work hard for victory over fellow premiershi­p aspirant Neerim-Neerim South.

The Cobras won 11-11 (77) to 88 (56) to open up a six point gap to third place.

The Cobras gradually built their lead throughout, with a five goal to two third term opening up a handy 37-point buffer at the final change.

It was enough to hold off a strong finishing Cats, who kicked four goals to three in the final term.

The usual suspects stood out for the Cobras. Ryan Gillis and Anthony Giuliano each kicked three goals, while Nathan Gillis, Tim Payne, Justin McCleary, Nathan Muratore and Ricky Clark provided plenty of drive.

Chris Urie led the way for the Cats, supported by Aaron Fawcett, Chris Weller, Ashley Lockett, Jackson Ward and Michael Urie.

South on top

Neerim-Neerim South moved a step closer to securing the minor premiershi­p in the Reserves, accounting for Cora Lynn 9-10 (64) to 4-3 (27).

The Cobras stayed in touch for the majority of the contest, trailing by just 15-points at threequart­er-time, but failed to score in the final term as the Cats kicked away.

Mathew Churchill, Cameron Nugent, James Johnson, Dane Fawcett, Jamie Graham and Mathew Cumming set up the win for the Cats.

James Balckhurst, Darcy Robinson, Thomas Arnet, Michael Gillis and Luke Foreman kept the Cobras in the match.

Cobras win big

Cora Lynn ran out big winners in the under 18s, 17-16 (118) to 2-4 (16).

The Cobras had the match in their keeping at half time and eased off in the final quarter.

Tristan Fernandez-Phillips and Lochie Peluso each kicked three goals, while Brayden Weller, Zach Williamson, Michael Rosetti, Lachlan Miceli and Jared Atkinson also stood out.

Bailey George, Harrison Griffiths, James Maguire, Travis McCann, Matthew Kelliher and Mitchell Diston were the better players in a tough day at the office for the Cats.

Cobras start slow

Cora Lynn overcame a slow start to comfortabl­y win the under 16s, 9-9 (63) to 3-0 (18).

Trailing by four points at quarter time, the Cobras took control to kick eight goals to one from that point.

Matthew Ryan kicked five goals. He had good supply from Sebastian Foster, Chase Blackwood, Patrick Briffa, Levi Munns and Liam Taylor.

The Cats were best served by Dustin Buckley, Noah Glen, Elijah Ford, Rhys George, Kyle Clarke and Lachlan Guy.
