First goals highlight

-

First senior goals to Poowong’s Mitchell Van’T Hoff and Bunyip’s Dylan Gallasch were the highlights in an otherwise onesided affair, with the Bulldogs winning 25-14 (164) to 2-6 (18).

The Bulldogs kicked 16 goals to have the match in their keeping heading into the main break, 10 of those goals coming in a barnstorming second quarter.

Despite the second quarter barrage, Poowong still managed to score its two majors for the day against the run of play, showing some brief patches of troubling the Bulldogs with run and dare. But as is the case for many young sides, skill errors and turnovers were proving damaging as the Bulldogs capitalised.

The Magpies came from everywhere when under 16 player Mitchell Van’T Hoff kicked his first goal in senior football, the shot by no means a gimme 48 metres from goal.

The tempo slowed in the second half, but the Magpies still struggled to score as the Bulldogs controlled the match, adding another nine goals in the second half to run out big winners.

Bunyip under 16 player Dylan Gallasch had his moment in the final quarter, converting a tricky shot with the Bulldogs also coming from everywhere to congratulate the youngster.

Ruckman Brent Heus drifted forward to kick five goals for Bunyip, while Matthew Ross, Michael Laszczyk and Kris Bedford all chipped in with four majors. Nathan Lieshout took best on ground honours, while Gallasch was also prominent in his first senior game.

Josh Chiavaroli provided drive for the Magpies, while Josh Harvey, Harley Robjant, Mathew Tober, Tim Francis and Jake Cooper also battled hard.

Bunyip win big

Bunyip was also big winner in the Reserves, keeping the Magpies scoreless while posting 2513 (163).

Bryce Morton kicked five goals in a best afield performance, while Josh Lambert, Brad Thomas and Tyson Huston also chipped in to the big score. Sam Davies, Tyson Buckingham and Rickie Crockett were also prominent.

Anthony Northeast, Ashley McIntosh, Cole Attenborough, Rhys Schulz, Scott Loughridge and Tristan Hawksworth battled hard to stem the tide for the Magpies.

Bulldogs fall in

Bunyip fell in against a determined Poowong in the under 16s, winning 4-10 (34) to 4-8 (32).

The Magpies held a narrow lead throughout the first half, with the Bulldogs hitting the front early in the second half but unable to shake the Magpies.

Josh Murphy, Lachlan Shaw, Alex McMillan, Jye Wallin and Brodie Stokes led the way for the Bulldogs.

Jake Peacock, Darcy Burgess, Josh McNally, Jai Newcombe, Liam Blight and Jonah Serong led the charge for Poowong.
