Warragul Camera Club
Thirty members attended the July meeting to hear visiting judge David Norris comment on the entries in the monthly competition, subject “Boundaries”. Results: A grade prints: 1st and 3rd Jane Woodcock, 2nd Russell Monson, HCs to Ruth Burleigh and David Woodcock.
B grade prints: 1st Nat Peters, 2nd Ron Paynter, 3rd David Barton.
A grade PDI: 1st Steven Hall, 2nd Russell Monson, 3rd Terrie O’Dwyer, HCs to Linda Keagle and Ruth Burleigh.

Following the judging, David Norris showed a short audio visual of some of his own photos.
On June 26, 14 members braved the cold weather to stage a night walk round Warragul, led by Bruce Langdon, to take night photos of various features round town.
Tuition on the use of Lightroom for postproduction improvement of photos was held on July 11, led by Bruce Langdon and Ruth Burleigh.
A special presentation day will be held on July 31 at Campion School Supplies in Drouin, when Sue Tanian will give an illustrated talk about her adventures in Nepal.
There will also be audio-visuals by Jan Burt, and a presentation on Drone Photography by Alan Richardson.
Meetings are held the first Monday each month, and visitors are welcome.

WIGS Cancer Support Group
The next WIGS Cancer Support Group luncheon will be held on August 11 at the Yarragon Hotel.

West Gippsland Orchid Club
Once again there was a good attendance at the July meeting and there was a colourful display of orchids for judging.
The topic for discussion was on preparing plants for the shows, which are just around the corner now. Several members explained what and how they do stake and tie the flower stems, clean leaves and encourage flowers to be presented at their best.
The next meeting will be held on August 4 and we will be welcoming Ray Gribble as the guest speaker on the topic of Australian Native Dendrobiums. Ray has quite an extensive collection of plants and is very happy to share all he knows about growing these orchids so it should be an informative night.
Ray will also be bringing some sales plants with him so members may take a new plant or two home on the night.
On Wednesday August 24, some members will be attending the KCC Park in Skye to set up a display of orchids representing the West Gippsland Orchid Club Inc at the OSCOV Show for the four days of August 25, 26, 27 and 28. This is quite a big show and well worth attending for those interested in orchids.

An invitation is extended to anyone from the public interested in orchid culture to come along to the meeting at the Drouin Scout Hall where you will be made most welcome. The hall will be opened at 7pm so that orchids can be placed on the bench for judging and the meeting will begin at 8pm.

Warragul Stroke Support Group
The next meeting of Warragul Stroke Group is to be held today at 90 Smith St. Warragul in the Baw Baw Shire annexe.
It is being held there for this term while the Community House is undergoing renovations.

U3A Baw Baw
U3A Baw Baw’s annual literary lunch is again being held at the Black Tie Restaurant in Warragul on August 12.
This years guest speaker is Denise Tobin Shine, author of The Undertakers Mother an account of Denise’s grandparents, whose four sons started Brothers Directors.
Courses this term, which are held each week day at the Drouin RSL Hall, include Significant Men of Australia, Shakespeare Play Reading, an Art Group, Solar Power and Energy Management, along with the regular classes such as Mahjong,
The state government is helping communities teach young students about our Anzac story and World War One by supporting a new travelling roadshow.
The Messenger Dogs - Tales of WW1 puppet show follows the journey of Nell, Trick and Bullet three dogs responsible for carrying messages between headquarters and the front line.
Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing said the free puppet show was tailored to students from prep to grade six, telling tales of courage, determination and mateship that capture the hearts and minds of young Victorians.
The 45 minute performance will come complete with an online education resource kit for primary schools to download. Each Tobin Funeral Computers, Civic Affairs, What’s the Matter, Scrabble and Fine Film discussion.
As usual there is a monthly gathering of members on the afternoon of the second Friday of each month where there is usually an interesting guest speaker.

The Messenger Dogs - Tales of WW1 puppet show follows the Anzac Centenary - Victoria’s Journey of Remembrance show, which has reached 35,000 Victorians in two years.
Ms Shing said programs like these ensured stories of WWI were kept alive for future generations.
“We owe it to the past and to the future to make sure these stories are told,” she said.
