Hands-on education
Education provider SEDA Group (SEDA) assists students to transition from school to employment or further study by allowing them to pursue their passion for sport in a hands-on learning environment.
SEDA, which operates programs in Traralgon, aims to support year 11 and 12 students to complete their secondary education within the sport, recreation and community settings as well as gain nationally recognised Vocational Education and Training qualifications.
Individual strengths of students are identified, developed and enhanced through positive learning experiences, allowing them to learn important life skills including organisation, independence and teamwork.
Graduate students are mature, resilient and capable young people who can pursue a range of pathways, either in employment or further study in a variety of industries.
Of the 2015 graduating class, 48 per cent went on to university study and a further 14 per cent gained employment. Gippsland students can access programs offered in conjunction with AFL Victoria, Cricket Australia, Netball Victoria, Basketball Victoria Country and Melbourne City FC.
An information evening will be held on Wednesday, August 10 at Traralgon Recreation Reserve, Whittakers Rd, Traralgon at 7 pm.
Helped with Career Choices and Key Life Skills
The SEDA Program has helped SEDA student, Jordan Larkman to develop his industry networks and key life skills.
The 19-year-old has always been passionate about sport, but found he wasn’t enjoying the curriculum at his previous school. “I looked at SEDA as the perfect opportunity to combine my love of sport with my learning”.
Jordan is in his final year of the SEDA Program, currently completing his Diploma of Sport Development. Throughout his three years in the SEDA program, Jordan has had the opportunity to work with Cricket Victoria and has been able to explore potential career choices.
“The great thing about the SEDA Program is that it enables you to try different career pathways and exposes you to different industries and people within those industries, to then be able to network” said Mr Larkman.
Jordan said the SEDA program has helped him develop his leadership, organisational and communication skills. “Due to the hands-on nature of the SEDA program it enables you to develop key skills that you will take with you post SEDA”.
SEDA has partnerships with varies universities that allows students to directly articulate into numerous courses. “Post SEDA I would like to attend university and use the connections I have made while at SEDA to help with my future in any way possible”.
