Pop in to the op shop
Locals have been encouraged to op shop until they drop for National Op Shop week.
National Op Shop Week raises awareness of the importance of supporting your local op shop to help your local community. It began on Sunday and will run through until Saturday.
Fashion with a conscious is this year’s message for National Op Shop week.
Fashion with a conscious encourages shoppers and would be shoppers to re-use, recycle and reinvent fashion. By shopping at your local op shop you help struggling individuals and families, and divert 15,000 tonnes of clothing and household items per year from landfill.
Op shops are a place where you can still find well-made, high quality items for a fraction of the price you would pay for new.
Classic styles like cotton shirts, woollen knits, leather shoes and jeans are almost always available in op shops. Trench coats, blazers and plain t-shirts are commonly stocked too.
Look out for quality fabrics like wool, silk, denim and 100 per cent cotton in cuts that suit your body shape and you’ve got the foundations of a great wardrobe.
More and more Australians are turning to charity op shops to buy clothes. However, charity op shops still need good quality donations. Making a donation can help op shops from running short of stock.
Boosting donations to charity op shops is another aim of National Op Shop week.
