Women

A Canadian Memorial day was held at Trafalgar Golf Club last week to remember past women who had played at the club.

Karen MacGregor and Pat Harris won the event with 81 and 1/8.

Runners up were Sue Devries and Sonia Roberts with 81 and 7/8.

NTP: 5th June Tickell, 11th Bev Keily.

DTL: Jo Baker and Kerryn Ludlow with 82 and 3/8, June Tickell and Bev Keily with 83 and 7/8.

This week is stableford with Cheryl Deppeler and Sue Rogers starting, while Trudi Mumford is checking.

The annual general meeting for the women’s committee will be held on September 14. A three-person drop out Ambrose will be played on the day, commencing at 9am sharp.

There has been a change in the program with August 31 now stableford.

The Hilary Hobson Memorial day on September 28 will be a 9am start due to work on the course.

Drouin

A biting cold wind made conditions unpleasant on Saturday. Those in carts were particular­ly affected.

Scott Squires took out A grade on countback with 37. Steve Henning won B grade also with 37.

The hard luck story of the day belongs to Dean Robbins. In search of his first hole-in-one, his tee shot landed just 24cms short on the fifth.

Wednesday also produced strong winds but the wind chill factor was not nearly as significan­t. Darryl Bryce certainly thought so. His 42 to win A grade was far and away the best score for the week.

In B grade, John Fusinato’s 37 saw him notch his first win for the year.

Women

Drouin women played a game of Irish Sixes on Tuesday, with Marg Purcell donating the trophies for the day.

The winning team was Marg Purcell, Mildred Lyon, Sharon Rippon and Robyn O’Brien with a score of 83. Runners up were the team of Helen Andreasen, Anne McGougin, Val Johnson and Pam Cougar with a score of 71.

Nearest the pins went to Robyn O’Brien on the eighth, Marg Rowe on the 10th and Marg Purcell picked up the pro pin.

Today will be a stableford event sponsored by the club.

Seniors

A lovely sunny morning encouraged 37 seniors to compete in their nine-hole event on Thursday.

It was a joint win in the women’s division, with Lorna Hoskins and Robyn O’Brien each scoring 17 points.

The runner up was Megan Ford with 16 points, followed by Catriona Ferguson with 14 points, Nola Siddell, Sue Hatfield and Marg Cox with 13 points, Pam Soutar with 12 points, Helen Ross and Audrey Farthing with 11 points, and Shirley Campbell Smith with 10 points.

In the men’s division the winner with a great score of 22 points was Peter Downward.

The runner up was Ray Fish with 18 points, followed by Richie Thomas and Richard Ford with 17 points, Vin Bibby with 16 points, Reg Dixon, Con Norris and Bill Petschack with 15 points, and Kevin O’Brien and Tex Devlin with 14 points.

Warragul

The fine conditions have seen the fields improve over the last couple of weeks.

Thursday’s numbers were up with the fine conditions having a say on the field size with enough for two grades.

Winners were Kevin O’Brien (A grade) on countback from Chris Harrison both finishing on 38 points, while in B grade a handicapp improving round of 47 points saw Geoff Campbell win from Glenn Butterwort­h on 38.

Women

Last Wednesday saw 58 women play in the Doris Chambers foursomes event to be able to go into the play off in October.

The winners and players to represent Warragul were Penny Scott and Tracey Cusden with 34 points. Runners up were Kerri Ahearn and Jill Little with 33 points.

Balls down the line went to Wendy Brown and Molly Answerth 32, Judith Kennedy and Kay Thompson 32, Janine Williams and Lesley Huggins 31, Del Baker and Denise Weir 31, Jenny Wiedermann and Chris James 31 and Brenda Whitehead and Lisa Heggart 29 points.

The nine-hole competitio­n winner was Maureen Kittelty with 18 points and Rhonda Rhodes with 14 points.

Tomorrow’s round is the perpetual trophy in honour of Val Barass to be played in the Canadian foursomes event.
