Opening date set
Residents are set to have a range of new aquatic facilities when the Warragul Leisure Centre redevelopment is completed and re-opens in less than two weeks.
The indoor aquatic facilities including the warm water pool, splash deck, learn to swim pool and hydrotherapy pool were filled last week.
Following a 17 month redevelopment, the leisure centre redevelopment and new outdoor pool is in the final stages of completion and will re-open on Monday, September 19.
Shire comminity assets director Phil Cantillon said final tiling works were being completed on the outdoor pool but hopefully fine weather this week would be in their favour.
He said the outdoor pool was expected to take two to three days to fill with water and would hopefully be completed by September 19, but may not be commissioned.
The new outdoor pool will open with other shire outdoor pools on December 1.
Because of heating of the pool, it will be unique from other summer pools in that it will be open regardless of weather and enjoy an extended season until April 30.
The leisure centre indoor pool facilities closed in April last year for the redevelopment works.
The $14 million redevelopment has been council’s largest capital works project, with works being undertaken by Behmer & Wright Pty Ltd. Features of the redevelopment include: Extended pool hall for more aquatic space; New leisure and splash pool with beach entry and water features;
New program pool suitable for swimming lessons;
Larger warm water pool with an accessible ramp; New 50m outdoor pool; New accessible ramp within 25m pool; Upgraded change facilities and new storage areas; and,
New timber-sprung floor and roof over the two court stadium.
