What is electrolysis?

-

Superfluous hair, although quite natural, is a problem for many women. Electrolysis is the only proven method of permanent hair removal and it involves the insertion of a line needle into the hair follicle to the hair root.

Electrolysis uses a mild current which is then passed down the needle to the tip to cauterize the hair root enabling the hair to be withdrawn.

The electrolysis process only takes a few seconds. Can it be performed on any part of the body? Some of the areas where superfluous hair can become a problem and which are suitable for hair removal treatment are facial areas, upper lip, chin, neck, sides of the face, low hair line, thick eyebrows, between the brows, eyebrow shaping, arms, underarms, legs, thighs, bikini line, abdomen, back and shoulders, fingers and toes.

How will it feel? Electrolysis hair removal is not generally painful although there may be some slight discomfort and occasionally a feeling of heat for a short time. There may also be a slight redness.

Specially formulated soothing lotions are available for use after treatment. Depending on how much superfluous hair needs to be removed you may require electrolysis sessions weekly or fortnightly, extending to intervals of three weeks or six weeks between treatments until finally only check-up treatments once a year will be all that is required.

At the initial consultation your electrologist will be able to give you an estimation of the number of sessions necessary.
