Gibson and Park EDFL’s best

Warragul Industrial­s midfielder Will Gibson and Buln Buln utility Charlie Park have taken out the Ellinbank District Football Leaguie best and fairest for the under 16 and under 18 competitio­ns respective­ly.

Gibson polled 34 votes to be run away winner of the Ian Cooper medal at the EDFL’s junior vote count at Warragul Greyhound Club on Wednesday night, while Park also polled 34 votes to hold off Catani’s James Williams for the Bill Cumming medal. Neerim-Neerim South’s Rhys George led the under 16 count early before Gibson made his charge after round four. He polled three votes in round nine to join Nar Nar Goon’s Cooper Hampton in the lead and never relinquish­ed it from there.

Cora Lynn’s Patrick Briffa polled well throughout the middle rounds and along with George, posed a threat after round 14. Gibson kept up his strong form to poll 11 votes in his final four matches to run away with it, nine votes clear from George.

Gibson polled in 14 games and was voted by the umpires as best on ground on seven occasions.

Hampton finished the count on 21 votes, as did Garfield’s Trent McMahon. Catani’s Liam Adams polled well, finishing with 19 votes in a side that didn’t win too many games. Briffa and Koo wee rup’s Mitchell Cammarano also finished with 19 votes.

Park polled consistent­ly throughout the count, polling 13 times which included eight best on ground performanc­es.

Williams was his main challenger throughout, finishing runner up with 27 votes.

Despite playing a handful of senior games, Cora Lynn’s Lochie Peluso polled 20 votes to finish third.

Mitchell Leek and Toby Bransgrove capped a good night for the Buln Buln club by taking home the goal kicking awards.
