Dancers strut their stuff for eisteddfod
Enthusiastic and talented dancers of all ages have taken to the stage at the annual West Gippsland Dance Festival in the past four days.
The dance festival began at the West Gippsland Arts Centre on Friday and will continue until Sunday.
More than 40 dance schools from across Gippsland and metropolitan Melbourne will take part, including two Warragul dance schools – KC’s School of Dance and Studio Samsara.
The program features age groups from under six dancers to 17-years and over dancers.
A variety of dance styles will be presented including classical, modern jazz, character, song and dance, tap, national, neo, contemporary, hip hop and spiritual.
Dancers will compete in solo, duo and trio sections as well as troupe sections as well as improvisations.
Three sessions are held each day in the morning (8.30am to midday), afternoon (1pm to 5pm) and evening (from 6pm).
Highlights of the festival will be the championship sections in senior, intermediate and junior age groups.
For lovers of tap dancing the juniors will take to the stage for the junior championship in the evening session on Thursday while senior tap dancers will perform for the championship on Saturday afternoon.
On Friday the junior modern championship will be held in the afternoon while the intermediate classical championship will be held during the evening session.
Saturday will see intermediate modern dancers take on their championship section in the afternoon and the best of the best dancers on pointe in the senior classical championship in the evening.
The final night on Sunday promises to be a great night of entertainment with the senior modern championship, junior classical championship and open age modern troupes as the finale.
