Stars finish strongest for premiership

-

Garfield finished strongly to claim the under 18 premiership.

The Cobras kicked the first four goals of the game and looked as if they would carry on from their second semi final form.

But they would go missing from that point, only adding a further two goals for the remainder as the match as the Stars stormed home.

The Cobras quickly had the first two goals on the board, with Mark Bartuccio instrumental in setting up both.

Lochie Peluso and Zach Williamson both handled to set up another attack from the outside with a banana kick from Jayden Frazer sailing through.

Tristan Fernandez-Phillips dished off to set up Ryan Bathgate for an easy goal in the square as the Cobras rushed out to a four goal lead.

The Stars boasted several players to have already gained experience at senior level and it was telling in the final result.

They goaled from out wide to finish the term and while both sides battled it out in a torrid second term, a clearancde from Rhys Murphy set up Mitchell Tribuzi for a snap on goal to reduce the margin to nine points at the main break.

A snap from the pocket anbd a free to Murphy in front of goal ensured the Stars would gain the lead early in the third term.

A clearance from FernandezPhillips set up Bartuccio for a major to put the Cobras back in front, but it was short lived as Murphy marked on the lead. His shot just snuck in as the Stars went into three-quarter-time with a narrow lead.

Murphy snapped his thrid goal from the pocket, the first of a run of three straight goals to set the Stars up for the premiership.

Alex Sabbatucci cleared from the centre to allow Brayden Leggett to run into the open goal before another snap put the issue beyond doubt.

Cora Lynn steered through a consolation goal late.

Damion Denysenko was awarded the best on ground medal, while Murphy, Sam Whibley, Ethan Heywood, Daniel Helmore and Brayden Leggett were also prominent.

For Cora Lynn it was Peluso, Heath Briggs, Michael Rossetti, Adam Jenner, Ben Virgona and Lachlan Miceli that helped them out to an early lead.
