Drouin wins spot in grand final
Drouin cruised into the A grade netball grand final with a 7643 win over Moe in the preliminary final.
After losing by only one goal in last week’s second semi-final to miss out on the chance to head straight into the grand final the Hawks had fire in their bellies and their sights set on a good win against Moe.
Moe kept with Drouin initially before the Hawks took charge and capitalised on the scoreboard.
Stacie Gardiner and Karina Proctor were in incredible form confidently shooting some “long bombs”.
They rebounded superbly on the few occasions they missed.
Mid-courters in Christie Edwards and Ruby Pratt (who had already played a full game in the 17&Unders) applied intense pressure that led to numerous turn-overs.
On the ring, Pratt showed the older players what she has learnt this season. Even when she copped a quick pass to the stomach, she caught it and made it look as though she knew it was coming.
In defence, Jessie Hedley (WD) always waiting at the transverse line ready to help when needed was also crucial in getting that ball to the goalers.
Her gutsy efforts in putting her body on the line didn’t go unnoticed.
Sarah Dunn (Roughead) and Kym Diston held strong in defence taking intercepts and rebounds and pressuring Moe’s goalers.
They also moved the ball quickly and safely back down so Drouin could convert.
After Drouin hit the lead it quickly gained a 10-goal break.
In the final quarter the game turned into a bit of a practice run for Drouin as Moe realised its finals campaign was over.
The Hawks are confident and looking forward to Saturday’s grand final rematch with Traralgon.
Awards winners were Stacie Gardiner and Karina Proctor.
