Public forums to get views of candidates for the Baw Baw Shire elections next month have been announced for the West and Central wards.

The Committee for Drouin will host the West ward forum and Baw Baw Shire Ratepayers’ and Citizens’ Associatio­n is convening a meeting in Warragul for Central ward candidates.

The West ward forum will be at Drouin Secondary College’s Moondah Room on Monday, October 3, at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

Candidates will be given a set time to address the audience before a question session.

The Central ward forum is planned for Wednesday, September 28, at the Warragul RSL clubrooms in Albert St starting at 7.30pm.

Preference will be given to questions received in writing in advance of the event.

There has been no indication yet if there will be a candidates’ forum in the East ward that takes in Darnum, Yarragon, Trafalgar, Hallora, Thorpdale and Walhalla. Nomination­s close at midday today. The election will be by postal ballot. Ballot papers will be mailed to eligible voters early next month and must be returned to the Victorian Electoral Commission by 6pm on October 21, the day before the official election date. Voting is compulsory.
