Taking part in The Addams Family has been a learning experience for Marist-Sion College student Stef Carter, one of several locals in the cast.

A member of the show’s ensemble, she says she’s learnt a host of new vocal and musical skills since rehearsals started in November.

Stef has performed with the Warragul Theatre Company but this is her first show with Gippsland youth theatre company Class Act Productions.

“I’ve really enjoyed meeting different people from other theatre companies.”

She’s also a fan of show. “I’d watched The Addams Family on TV but never seen the musical. “It’s really funny, with great songs.” Her favourite? Move Towards the Darkness. “It’s got great harmonies.”

Formed in 2001, Class Act Productions is the longest running dedicated youth theatre company in Gippsland.

Founders David and Jan Pickburn, Mandie Black and David Williams saw the need for a dedicated company to foster the talent of young people in Gippsland.

Several members of the company have gone on to pursue professional careers in the arts, including in theatre, music and dance.

Class Act also seeks to mentor young people by offering roles such as assistant choreographers, assistant directors and assistant musical directors.

This offers further opportunity for development and leadership for those interested in extending their skills in theatre.
