Improving welfare

-

The Draft Animal Welfare Plan was recently launched by the state government.

The first of its kind for Victoria, the action plan identifies the direction for animal welfare for the Victorian community, government and our animal-related industries.

Community expectations of animal welfare standards have increased recent years.

Whether the focus is on pets, animals bred to produce food, those used in sport and entertainment, or wildlife, Victorians are increasingly aware of the need to be proactive about animal welfare.

Victorians care for the welfare of our animals, but with your help we can always do better.

To achieve this, we want you to participate - we care about your opinion.

Get involved, share your ideas and find out more about the plans to be proactive about animal welfare.

Three action areas have been identified.

Action area 1 - new, contemporary laws for animal welfare.

Action area 2 - collaborative approaches underpin knowledge, commitment and investment in animal welfare.

Action area 3 - compliance and enforcement is efficient and effective.

The government is seeking feedback from individuals, industry and community groups.
