Drouin sit third

Drouin sits third on the Gippsland golf croquet pennant ladder at the half way mark, having won five of seven games played.

With a reversal top wintry weather, Drouin played away to Korumburra under difficult conditions last week with strong winds and intermitte­nt driving rain the order of the day.

At the completion of the singles games, the visitors led five games 47 hoops to Korumburra’s three games, 38 hoops.

Drouin’s Vicky Rogers filled in for Hamish Menzies and was thrilled to win her first ever singles game.

The tide turned in the doubles rounds with Korumburra winning four games to Drouin’s two to close the final margin to just six hoops. Drouin are away to Leongatha today. Results: Droiin seven games, 81 hoops d Korumburra seven games, 75 hoops.

Meanwhile, Drouin’s recent handicap singles tournament was a great success for the club.

Deirdre Lebbon of Sale won division one with Jan Norwood of Bairnsdale runner up. In division two Robert Bennie of Frankston finished ahead of club mate Faye O’Toole.

Other clubs represente­d were Ballarat, Western, Korumburra, Maffra, Warragul and Drouin.

Thursday is the club’s final seniors croquet day, commencing at 10am and concluding at 2pm. Warragul Warragul hosted Wonthaggi 1 in round seven with the visitor returning home successful.

This week is the start of the second round of matches with Warragul travelling to Morwell. Results: Wonthaggi 1 eight games, 82 hoops defeated Warragul six games, 77 hoops.

Singles: Peter Boothman lost 7/3 and 7/5; Barry Lang won 7/6, lost 7/5; Peter Eyre won 7/0, lost 7/4; Bev darby won 7/5 and 7/4.

Doubles: Boothman/Lang lost 7/3; Eyre/Darby won 7/5; Boothman/Eyre lost 7/4; Lang/Darby 7/2; Boothman/Darby won 7/6; Eyre/Lanf lost 7/5.
