Challenging times for eisteddfod

-

For the first time in eight years, the West Gippsland Music and Drama Eisteddfod committee will be without its long-serving treasurer, Margaret Mills.

Margaret was a long-serving general volunteer before taking on the position of treasurer eight years ago, while ably fulfilling the role of sponsorship co-ordinator at the same time and generally being an all-round stalwart during the eisteddfod season.

Anyone who has known her through those years of involvement will admire her thorough and tireless commitment to her roles and the smooth running of the events during each season.

Margaret has decided to retire from her roles with the eisteddfod at the end of the year and the has committee sincerely thanked her for her years of dedicated service.

Next year will be an engaging year for the eisteddfod’s 24th season with changes to the program and new locations for events.

The eisteddfod committee have started planning for next year’s season, their 24th.

Because of the unavailability of the West Gippsland Arts Centre next year, there will be changes to the usual schedule of events.

Unfortunately, the eisteddfod will be unable to host both the choral and instrumental ensembles sections as a suitable replacement venue could not be found.

The modern vocal and speech and drama sections will be relocated to St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School, and the committee is also in the process of securing a replacement venue for the Parasteddfod, with further information to be announced next year.

All other events will run at their usual venues in July and August with specific dates to be confirmed.

The committee encourages any members of the community who would like to be involved with the eisteddfod in any capacity, be it as a committee member or general volunteer, to contact the secretary.

There is now an urgent need for someone to fill the treasurer’s role.

Anyone who can help can contact secretary David Steele at enquiries@wge.org.au for further information.
