Lions celebrate 50 years

Warragul Lions Club celebrated its 50th anniversar­y at a special dinner at Danny’s The Venue last month.

More than 100 people attended the dinner including 38 club members and 13 Lioness members.

Representa­tives of Lions Clubs from Balnarring, Cranbourne, Drouin, Longwarry, Mornington, Neerim and District, Pakenham, Rosedale and Willow Grove also attended.

Members of Rotary (president elect Vaughan Fox), Sally Jones and Central Gippsland Legacy president John Leviston also attended.

Dignitarie­s in attendance were District Governor Anita Culpitt, Vice District Governor Andrew McMahon, past District Governor Shirley Higman, past District Governor Jim Johnson, past District Governor Terry Hayler, Kerrie McMahon Zone Chairman, Geoff Anderson Zone Chairman/Region Chairman, and Baw baw Shire mayor Joe Gauci.

Life membership­s were presented by the district governor to John Daniels, Jim Kennedy and Ken Jarred.

Monarch Awards were presented to Chris Kennedy (35 years), Graeme Perkins (10 years), Brian Cornwall (25 years), Alan Ryan (45 years), Bob Coelho (10 years), Geoff Anderson (15 years).

A rolling pictorial display consisting of around 1200 photograph­s showing the activities of the club over the past 10 years was screened as a backdrop throughout the night.

A highlight of the evening was the launch of the club’s history. Written by member Ian de Bruyne the book features a history of the many club projects, charter members, and office bearers and a section on the Warragul Lioness Club.

The history of the club is recorded with 20 pages of photograph­s.
