Garfield trounces Moe

Division 2: Garfield defeated Moe 93/76

Tom Cleary (skip), Shane Oliver, Ron Saunders and Stu Gemmill won 22/20.

Garfield went in at smoko up 13/6. Then Moe won five ends to Garfield’s three. but Garfield held on.

Steve Whyte (skip), Alan White ,Graeme Burton and Gary Helmore won 24/21.

Garfield trailed early but got a five on the sixth to lead by a shot and went in at smoko up 11/10. After the break the game was level twice with both teams winning two of the last four ends.

Steve Bassed (skip), Gary Payne, Ray Biffin and Les Pumphrey won 23/18.

Garfield went in at smoko down by one but won five of the first seven ends after the break to lead 18/14 on the 20th and three of the next five ends.

Peter Lieshout(skip), Jim Power, Jack Lee and Rod James won 24/17.

Scores were level on the seventh and ninth, but Garfield got away and led 19/11 on the 18th. Moe won four ends but could not catch Garfield.

Division 5: Garfield defeated Yallourn 71/60.

Damian Brick (skip), Adrian Helmuth, Cliff Stephens and Bob Hope won 23/21.

Garfield trailed by five on the third but came back strongly to win seven of next nine ends and went in at smoko up 17/7. Moe came back strongly to get close. It was a tight game to the end.

Don Knight (skip), Gordon Moxey, Lex Tayler and Rod Hackett won 23/20.

Garfield went in at the break leading 13/10. It was a good hard-fought game with both teams winning six ends each after smoko.

Wes Goodman (skip), Bob Lamport, Jill Rouse and Frank Prins won 25/19.

Garfield trailed 2/8 on the seventh but levelled twice before the break. Garfield got six shots in two ends to lead 18/15 on the 19th and secure a good win.

Division 6: Garfield lost to Warragul 45/51.

Pat Marriott (skip), Bev Sainsbery, Jan Johnson and Jim Boucher lost to M. Cousens’ team 20/28.

Warragul led 13/6 on the 10th. Garfield got within three on the 16th.

Judy Pocklingto­n (skip), Gwen Scott, Phil Humphreys and Keith Sainsbery won 25/23

Garfield led 5/0 on the second but Warragul fought back and went in at the break up 15/11. The game see-sawed. Scores were level on the 23rd but Garfield got three shots on the 24th in a hard-fought game.

Garfield had a lot of players out this week and appreciate­d Warragul’s lending a player, Gwen Scott. Thanks to Gwen, who played very well, as always.
