Warragul Camera Club

-

It has been a busy month at Warragul Camera Club.

A group of members attended the Gippsland Interclub exhibition opening in Briagolong, while other members took time to visit at other times during the month. The club were awarded a total of 92.5 points by the judges.

This was almost immediately followed by the hanging and opening of the club’s 60/60 Darkroom to Digital Exhibition in the West Gippsland Arts Centre.

Club president Ruth Burleigh said the club should be proud of the work that was exhibited.

“We have had a lot of positive feedback, and maybe even some additional members,” she said.

She thanked the staff at West Gippsland Arts Centre for the assistance and support with the exhibition.

Coming up soon is the weekend to Mansfield where club members will take in the sunset at Craig’s Hut, and also take part in a workshop with Richard White. The club will need to confirm workshop times with those attending, as Richard cannot take all at once.

Now that the club are back at Mawarra, setting up for meetings takes time and effort. The club welcomes any member to come early on meeting nights if they are willing to help with setting up the room at 7pm.

Members are also reminded that they need to return their chairs to the area near the door and wash and dry their cup at the end of the night.

The second Monday night tutorials have proven to be popular and have become a regular part of the club calendar. Venue cost is $50 each night and is additional to the club’s budget.

It has been suggested those attending should be asked to pay $5 per night to cover the additional cost, and committee members would be interested to hear members’ views.

The club congratulated David Barton, Julie Beasley, Ron Paynter and Robyn Wright on their regrading to A grade. New members will be assigned to B grade, and requested to submit images to confirm or revise grading. Scoring for end of year awards will only accumulate after confirmation of official grading.

The 2017 syllabus will be available at the next general meeting and also via the club website.

The 2017 syllabus will also include a new competition; a photo book. The syllabus will contain the formal prescription, but it will be an open topic, with common page sizes and limited to 20 pages.

Judging criteria will be on quality of content and storytelling.

The club recently received a phone call from a television station who have invited members to submit photos for their weather segment. Interested members can email them to weather@wintv.com. au with a name, brief description and location as well as their own location if they wish.

Members are reminded to bring any Warragul Camera Club perpetual trophies they have in their possession to the November meeting so they can be prepared for presentation in in December.

The judge will be an absentee judge, so the club has some audio visuals from David Woodcock, Linda Zwierlien and Ruth Burleigh.

Members are asked to consider sharing a short presentation of some of their work.
