June Dineen wins Memorial

-

The October meeting of Waragul Garden Club was well attended and the spring show bench was colourful, crowded and full of perfume.

The winner of the annual George Lowe Memorial Iris Competition was June Dineen.

Second and third places went to entries by Heather Coustley and June Dineen.

The flower of the month as judged by Heather Thompson was won by Ron Blair and Aileen White had the best exhibit.

The guest speakers were Alex and Bev Mentiplay, who spoke on ‘their way of growing Orchids’.

Alex demonstrated how a plant is divided and gave tips on growing orchids.

Members also saw a photo presentation of some of the plants in their orchid house, utilising the equipment bought with the club’s Baw Baw Shire grant.

Alex kindly donated an orchid to add to the door prizes supplied by a local hardware store. These were won by Alan Saunders, Ingrid Tully and June Gregory.

The next meeting will be on Monday, November 28 which will be followed by Christmas lunch (cost $35) at The Black Tie.

For lunch bookings phone Judy 5623 6180.

The guest speaker will be from Oasis Seedlings. Flower of the month is a container of Roses.

Doors at the club’s venue, Warragul Senior Citizens Centre, open at 9am with show bench entries to be placed ready for judging prior to 9.30am.

The meeting commences at 9.45am. New members always welcome. (

There will be no meeting in December, but the club will be meeting in January.
