First Competitions of the Season

-

Warragul and District Angling Club has recently held club competitions on Western Port Bay with up to 20 club boats fishing in each comp.

The season kicked off with their annual squid comp held on a Sunday morning.

A few boats headed out over Saturday night ready for the early start.

This tactic paid off the squid biting was very short with most boats getting all their squid by 7.30am, after that it was very tough.

The first place of heaviest squid went to Adam Jinks weighing 1.1kg. Second place went to Daniel Schmidt which a squid weighing 980g, and third place went to Jason Webb weighing 640g.

The next comp for the season was the Intra club Snapper comp on Western Port Bay which was held over 3 days.

With less than ideal conditions, there were still great captures. Friday night saw the best bite with squid and fresh fillets being the best bait.

First place for the heaviest Snapper went to Daniel Schmidt weighing at 6.58kg. Second place went to Joanne Steenholdt with a Snapper weighing 6.09kg, and third went to Geoff Rowlinson weighing 5.50kg.

The heaviest snapper in the junior division went to Saxon Maconachy with a snapper weighing 3.65kg.
