Free family activities will bring Christmas shoppers into Warragul on Saturday to encourage them to buy local.

The Warragul Business Group has received a Regional Developmen­t Victoria $10,000 grant for the “Shop Warragul Buy Local” promotion.

The promotion also is encouragin­g community members to purchase Shop Warragul gift cards, which are valued at $20 and $50 and redeemable in hundreds of business in Warragul.

Saturday’s Shop Warragul day will feature a range of free family activities between 9am and 1pm.

The activities will feature within the town centre and also at Saturday’s Warragul Farmers’ Market.

Santa will travel the town on a horse drawn sleigh and talk to children at the farmers’ market and stopping in the town centre near the cenotaph.

Santa also will be available for photos in Santa’s decorated house in The Courthouse garden.

Other activities include a jumping castle opposite the cenotaph; face painting at several locations around the CBD; lucky dip at The Courthouse; buskers around the CBD; and, various children’s activities outside Select Office Supplies in Smith St.

The Warragul Lions Club will run a barbecue in the CBD. The first 100 sausages will be given away free. Paella will be provided by Brandy Creek Winery at a cost.

A bus shuttle will run between the railway station and the town.

Nilma Primary School will provide a gift wrapping service in Palmerston St kiosk (gold coin donation)

There also will be a Shop Warragul Gift Card giveaway to lucky shoppers.
